Up until about April there is always one more chance for a serious dump of snow and some chilly temperatures. We’ve already had pre-breakup and now it’s time for the real deal. I think we’ve endured enough winter this season. For now the temperatures have been hovering above freezing during the day and dropping below at night. Makes for an interesting commute into work. Black ice and all.
As for the shot above, things seem to be progressing nicely. This has prompted the crew to plan our very first trip of the season. About time!!!
The word around town is the pressure on the locals has been high. Small town…word gets around. With very few options this time of year it is understandable. It never used to be that way. The low numbers of fish and the weather would keep most folks away. Not so much anymore…oh well. I can do what one friend has done and quit fishing a particular river because of the pressure. His loss I suppose. I can’t imagine ever giving up a piece of water just cause the scene is getting a little crowded. You have to adapt.
So for the next couple of weeks I have to sort through my gear which has been hibernating for the winter. Time to take inventory of what I have and what I need. Tops on the list is to put a dent into the fly tying. I checked the boxes yesterday and things are looking sparse. I like to share a lot of my flies and it is evident by the state they are in. I either get to work or stop sharing my flies I guess. Not really an option to not share. Bad fish mojo. Don’t want to start off the season with some bad fish mojo now do we.
Spring has always been about swinging. Cover lots of water to increase your odds of a hookup. That is where the two-hander comes in handy. Picked it up last year and have to say it is by far my favorite way to lay down some line. It is a big reason why I’ve decided to nix the beading from my bag of tricks this year. So this year I am adding another two-hander to the line-up. A rod specifically for “trout’n”. I hope to get my hands on it this week. Damn…it’s like Christmas all over again!!!
