Stacked up against the rainbow trout, the dolly varden is a loser every time. I’m not sure if anyone could argue that they would rather catch a 30″ dolly varden than a 30″ rainbow trout. If you can I would like to hear it.
While dolly varden lack the luster of rainbow trout, they are a fun fish to catch nonetheless. Lacking in hard charging runs and big air, they make up for it in numbers and an all out tug-a-war.
Dolly varden are above all…dependable. I think that is why they are so underrated. If they were difficult to catch I’m sure their worth on the open market would rise.
The 5-day forecast is starting to show a lot more above freezing temperatures. That’s good.
The first trip of the year seems to be just around the corner. It will feel good to stand at the water’s edge once again. Bombing casts way out there…hoping and wondering…that just maybe we’ve timed it just right. We are always pushing it earlier and earlier each season. That first trip is never really about catching a fish.
It’s really about igniting what’s been building up all winter.
