On Monday the petitions were turned in to the Division of Elections with the names of approximately 60,000 people here in Alaska [including myself, the Mrs., and the rest of the crew] that support the Clean Water Initiatives. If you remember I tried to shed a little light on the issue and to put into perspective the opposition against the initiatives.
What you may not know is that the State of Alaska, Governor Palin and her Administration tried to stop the initiatives from showing up on the ballot in November for the same reasons the Alaska Federation of Natives voted overwhelmingly to oppose the initiatives back in October.
Can’t put in jeopardy mining in Alaska, but it is okay to jeopardize one of the last remaining strongholds for sockeye salmon in the world.
