The mission has been scratched…it wasn’t meant to be. Circumstances beyond my control have committed me to be home bound this weekend. It ain’t so bad. There is still time.
I often daydream about what it would be like to have fly fishing as the top priority in my life. How insane it would be to spend 4 months just fly fishing. How great it would be to be able to fish where ever and when ever I wanted.
I read an article in Outside magazine recently (The Alpha Geek) about Eric Jackson (2007 World Freestyle Kayak Champion, founder of Jackson Kayaks, and Patagonia Ambassador). It discussed his domination in the sport of freestyle kayaking and brought to light the sacrifices made. His life and that of his families is wrapped around Eric Jackson and kayaking. This quote in particular stuck out.
“Any way you look at it, what I do is super-selfish.” – Eric Jackson
Something to think about.
I love fly fishing. Every spare moment I have is spent doing fly fishing things. As much as I would like fly fishing to be the top priority in my life, I wouldn’t trade what I have now for anything.
Plans are already in the works for next weekend. The lake leviathans will have to wait another week.
