Growing up, everyone played hockey. My brother and I lived across the street from the hockey rink and during the winters we played everyday. All the kids from the neighborhood would converge on the rink. We would toss all of the sticks into the middle and toss them blindly to the left and right. That’s how we picked teams.
We played when it was cold enough to crack a puck. We played from sun up to sun down. We played until the lights went out.
I quit playing organized hockey about 10 years ago. Not sure why but it happened. Sold or gave away all my gear except my skates. Picked up a stick and some gloves a year or so ago to play some shinny hockey. Recently picked up a new pair of skates.
I’m on the waitlist for the FHL (Fun Hockey League). Hoping it’s a short list. I’m ready to play.
I miss ice hockey too. Just so expensive in denver to play ice. I play inline, and it almost cures my itch to play ice, but not quite.
my hockey skates are a half size too small, I guess my fat belly has caused my feet to expand slightly.
I’ve never played inline. The pace on the ice and the explosiveness is probably what you miss.
Amazing to me is the gear. My new pair of skates weigh about the same as one of my old skates. Gear is so light now. Good thing cause I’m carrying some extra pounds.

Did first ice for the year on tuesday, then had a 2 hr session yesterday afternoon…
Today, I feel as if someone ran me over with a small car.
It only gets harder the older we get. You remember the moves, your body just can’t quite pull them off…then it hurts like hell afterwards.
I hear ya. The good thing is that the rest of the geezers are going through the same thing. I’m really curious to know how I’m going to do.
Wife isn’t that enthusiastic about the hockey bag.
I have been playing in the Ben Boeke mens league for the last 4 yrs or so. You just have to find a team. What skill level are you? Until last yr I was on 2 teams a yr. I played everything from Coed to A.
Skill level? I would say older dude who last played 10yrs ago skill level.
